What kind of materials do you offer as a roofing option?

Image of Roofing

The roof is an integral part of your home or office and the first line of defense that you have against the outside elements. Most people don't give much thought to their roof until a problem occurs; we just take for granted that it is there doing its job. At Acadian, we specifically utilize materials from the major and most respected shingle manufacturers in the industry. The handful that we use are CertainTeed, Owens Corning, and GAF, all recognized throughout the industry for setting a standard of excellence in roof materials. Of the three, our preference is CertainTeed shingles because we have found through years of experience that they provide the best quality materials, the best warranties and are safer to install in the group.

For other roofing materials, we find that Berridge Manufacturing Co. 24 gauge metal is superb for standing seam profiles and flashing details. It is a blend of form and function, in that it is attractive, low profile and serves its purpose extremely well. Additionally, we use Boral and the highest quality clay tile and slate available, imported from around the world. For versatility, high performance, durability, and beauty, they are unequaled. There are numerous types of materials and designs for a roof. Your roof technician will be happy to discuss all of your options and work with you towards the best possible solution.

What kind of warranty does your roofing company provide?

The answer to this question is an important one. A warranty is an essential element of the entire process. The life of your roof is of vital importance to your home or business. Our clients are savvy and expect to be provided with certain guarantees for work of this sort. Most new roof installations and re-roof projects come with a warranty of some kind, but what is covered can significantly vary from one to another. Since we are one of CertainTeeds select installers in the area, we can write up to a 50-year labor and materials warranty. CertainTeed offers some of the best-in-class warranties of any materials manufacturers.

As consumers, we like to be covered, and so we expect the best warranty to protect our personal investments. Therefore as professionals, we offer some of the best-extended coverage available. For example, we provide a 5-year workmanship warranty. This type of warranty is something that many of our competitors do not offer. According to Angie's List, "Although having a manufacturer warranty is valuable, more commonly, a substandard roof is attributable to poor installation — against which you may have no warranty. For that reason, it's important to hire a highly rated roofer." We have earned a reputation in the industry as being a company of quality and excellence. As such, we are willing to stand by our work with a beyond excellent warranty.

How long can I expect my roof system to last?

This is an excellent question and one that we are frequently asked. It is understandable that with a sizable investment such as this, you want to be sure that your new roof will be serviceable and attractive for years to come. A new roof in Houston and the surrounding areas typically needs replacing within 18-20 years of installation. There are several factors that have an effect on the life of a roof, the two foremost being aesthetic reasons and severe weather damage. Age and weather work together to give a roof a discolored, worn appearance. A worn appearance may not mean that there are structural issues with the roof, but it could have an adverse impact on curb appeal and the resale value of your home or office. However, with proper maintenance, a high-quality roof will often last as long as 25-30 years.

As home and business owners, we at Acadian appreciate and understand that only the highest quality building materials, superior craftsmanship, and correct venting will provide a secure and maintenance free roof. Time and weather wait for no person, so the right materials and workmanship is as important as the roof over your head. Unfortunately, we have and will experience bad weather, but barring unforeseen, catastrophic weather situations, such as hail or high wind, your new installation or re-roof will offer you years of service and curb appeal. When you select a company with the experience, capability and the knowledge of the best practices, even the effects of bad weather can be somewhat nullified.

  • Top quality new roofing systems.
  • Best warranties in the industry.
  • Over 15 years experience in the home construction industry.

How to choose a qualified roofer in Houston

What Does a Roofer Check for During a Roofing Inspection?

When you need your roof inspected, whether it’s for insurance requirements, new construction compliance, or just as a safe check-up after a storm, you want to ensure that the roofing company is doing a thorough job. This means doing more than just a quick visual inspection and handing you a quote. Here’s what you should look for when a roofer comes to your home for an inspection:

    • Full Interior Roof Inspection.  This includes going into the attic to check for proper R-value insulation levels, good ventilation, and any moisture and mold. Signs of moisture and mold often indicate water leaks that may have otherwise been hidden during a cursory roof inspection.
    • Full Exterior Roof Inspection.  The roof should be checked for general wear and tear as well as ensuring that the flashing, chimney, and other extrusions have not been compromised. The age and condition of shingles or other roofing materials should also be considered during inspection.
    • Full Plan of Action. A professional roofer will take all the information gleaned during their inspection and detail any recommended solutions in their estimate, with a full course of action for any immediate problems.

Did I Pick the Right Roofer? Tips to ensure your roofing project goes well

A successful roofing project, whether it’s a roof replacement or a simple eave repair, depends upon hiring an experienced and certified roofer. Here are some tips to ensure you are hiring the right roofer and at the right price:

    • Plan for a minimum of one hour to meet with each of your potential roofing contractors before awarding the project, especially when committing to a big project like a roof replacement.
    • Check their business license and confirm that they are operating out of a permanent business location.
    • Ensure that their liability insurance is current; this may involve calling their insurance agent to confirm.
    • Request examples of recent projects similar to your own. You may also want to ask for those references’ contact info so that you can hear their opinions of the service for yourself.
    • Avoid roofers who are not members of any trade organizations.
    • Before hiring, make sure you have a clear understanding of the contractor’s proposal, with a detailed timeline and material list.

Trying to choose a qualified roofer in Houston? These tips should help you identify the sort of contractors you want to work with—and avoid the kind you absolutely don’t.

    1) Ask for references :  If they do good work, they should have people willing to say so—especially if you’re looking at commercial roofing. Unless they’re the newest shop in town, good references should be a given.

    2) Ask questions : Good roofers can answer questions confidently and easily, within reason. Don’t be afraid to nudge a potential roofer a bit, to get a feel for whether or not they know their stuff.

    3) Check the guarantees : A good roofer doesn’t have to worry too much about people claiming against their warranties and guarantees, so they’re going to naturally offer great ones as a marketing tool. Bad warranties and guarantees mean the opposite: beware of shoddy work, shoddy materials, shoddy everything.

    4) Look into their licensure : If they don’t have the appropriate licenses and certifications for roofing in your area, run for the hills. You’ll end up with no end of headaches working with that sort of dubious operation, even if it is cheaper or a friend recommended them.

    5) Pay attention : Good contractors and bad contractors both have plenty of tells, and you don’t need to be an expert to spot them. Pay attention to professionalism, contracts, confidence, and everything else that plays a part in your interaction with a potential roofer. It shouldn’t take you long at all to spot the difference between good and bad, once you start trying to.

If you have discovered a problem with your roof, like a leak or missing shingles, you may be wondering how to choose a reliable roofing company. Even if you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, you should go ahead and hire a professional to work on your roof rather than attempt to fix it yourself. The roof is such a vital part of your home that repairs should be left in the hands of professionals. Here are a few guidelines to find a reputable roofing firm:

Look for a roofer on the internet and search by your zip code. Check the Better Business Bureau to see if they have any complaints, and if so, how they were resolved.

    Get a Referral
Ask your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues for the names of roofing companies that they may have used. Ask them if they are happy with the results.

    Interview Them
Talk to a prospective roofing professional in person. You can tell a lot about someone from a face-to-face meeting.

    Get More Than One Estimate
Companies usually provide free estimates, so make sure you get a second, or even third, opinion before you okay a project.

Choosing the right roofing company in Houston can help you maintain the structural integrity of your home. With a little effort and research on your part, your roof should be in good hands.

If you are having problems with your roof in Houston, finding a qualified and experienced roofing company is essential for quality repairs. There are a large number of roofing professionals in the greater Houston area. Narrowing the list until you find the right one can be challenging. Here are a few tips to make the choice a little easier.

    Get Referrals
Word of mouth is a traditional and efficient method for finding any service business. Ask friends, family, and colleagues if they have used a roofing company and, if so, whether they would recommend them.

Look online for roof companies in your zip code. Houston has many roofing businesses and the Internet is a great place to begin your search. A company’s site should tell you how long they have been in business, what services they perform, and offer testimonials from customers.

Check Sites Like BBB and Yelp
Make sure that the firm is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. You can also check user review sites like Yelp to read about customers’ experiences with a particular company.

    References and Insurance
Verify that the roofing company under consideration has sufficient liability insurance as well as workman’s comp for their employees. A successful contractor will be happy to provide references from satisfied customers. At Acadian Roofing, we understand how overwhelming finding a qualified, reliable and honest contractor can be. Call us and we will meet with you for a free inspection and estimate.

Selecting a qualified roofing contractor is not hard if you know what to look for in a company. Here are several things to expect from a qualified roofing firm:

    • They Should Have a Brick-and-Mortar Office – The company should have an established permanent address that should be included in your written estimate.

    • They Should Have References – Ask them to provide you with verifiable references. A successful company will be happy to put you in touch with satisfied clients.

    • They Should Be Licensed and Insured – Check to see if the contractor is appropriately licensed in your local area as well as the state. They should also be adequately insured.

    • They Should Be Willing and Able to Answer Questions – When you first talk to the roofer, take note of how he or she treats you. You want one who is willing to listen as well as answer questions. It is important that they are communicative. This will help you understand what type of work they are proposing and how it is to be done.

Choosing a qualified roofing contractor is easier than you may think. There is a wealth of information available on the Internet about local companies in your area. Narrow your search by zip code and then browse through the list of businesses. Check their services to make sure they will provide a free inspection and estimate. Read customer testimonials. Check sites like for customer reviews. See how the firm rates with the Better Business Bureau.Once you have made your selection give them a call. There is no better way to get a feel for a business than by talking to customer service reps. They should be delighted to answer your questions and set up an inspection appointment. If they are friendly and knowledgeable, add that to the list of positives and you can feel comfortable with using their services. Qualified companies are out there and with a little time and some research, you will find the right one.
